For the weekly photo challenge theme Ascend: The view from the crater of Gunung Bromo: the 200-step ascent following the trudge through the soft ashy Lautan Pasir (Sea of Sand), and the temple Pura Luhur Poten. It has always been a tough but satisfying climb for me.

As an aside, the local people were the forerunners in celebrity portmanteaus. Centuries before Brangelina and TomKat, this tribe named themselves Tengger, after their founding couple: Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.

That makes it Ascent and Descent.
